Of course, this has meant that The Charlatans have been the soundtrack to my week. In a way it was nice to hear all their songs being played out on the radio again for a change although I'd obviously rather be hearing them in better circumstances.
They're a band which I have a lot of respect for - they always seem to have time for their fans despite having had their share of misfortune and tragedies throughout the years and this hasn't changed one bit this week.
So this song is usually on in my car or ipod at the best of times but I thought it should be included in the blog this week; still one of my favourite songs of all time and the lyrics always seem to get me no matter how many times I've listened to it.
"Love is hard to leave and it's hard to never have"
I'd also highly recommend reading Tim Burgess' autobiography, Telling Stories. I read this during the summer while on holiday. I'm not one for reading but I couldn't put this down. Lots of hilarious stories about the band on tour throughout the years and great discussions about the meanings behind most of their songs. It actually wasn't what I expected and I think that's why I loved it so much.
A little bit from last weekend...
Be In Beltane

(Kirsty & I full of immaturity on the day)
So unless you're reading this in the ML2 area, you probably won't have heard of the famous Be In Beltane. Lucky for you, I'm a veteran of this event. Basically, Be in Beltane is a music festival held in Beltane Park in Wishaw to raise money for charity with loads of great local bands, attractions and more importantly, the beer tent. Having never missed a year of this yet (5 years..I think) - I can honestly say it's one of the best laughs and days out to look forward to every year.
As always, there's a variety of fantastic local acts to go and see throughout the day and this year even featured a stage inside the beer tent... just incase.
It's always great to attend events like this and see so many familiar faces, especially when those faces are up on the stage. Here's two of my favourites from the day;
Alburn; Seeing these guys on the main stage was definitely a proud moment for a few of us. Admittedly, this type of music isn't usually for me, being oasis obsessed and the likes (i'm sure they made a joke about this actually) but you can't deny the talent these boys have. To put it into their words they're "four happy men making angry music" and if that doesn't describe them down to a T then I don't know what will!
Wait, yes I do; this video from their facebook page; definitely puts the band across a million times better than I can. Give it a watch and check out their page. (link underneath picture)

The Merryless; a wee favourite of mine.
Having just played on the T Break Stage at this year's T in the Park, it was fantastic to get to see them play a local festival. The Merrylees really are the ones to watch at the moment as they've just recently announced that Arctic Monkeys producer, Ross Orton will be producing the b-side to their next single. They're definitely headed for big things and I can't wait to see what happens next.
This quote from NME sums them up pretty nicely;
"Looking as retro as Miles Kane fronting The Strypes, Scots The Merryless actually sound more dreamy, with their Bill Ryder-Jones produced single 'For You' melding The Coral, The Bees and Scott 4-era Scott Walker into a deliciously heady balm."

Hopefully that's encouraged a few more people to get down to Beltane next year anyway, I'll be there of course.
Ending this post with a few hilarious (and very drunk) photos from the event..just for a laugh.
